On Saturday, 18 January, more than 60 Eunice High School swimmers took part in the Dis-Chem, Kovsie Aquatics Open Water event at Maselspoort. Green Eunice swimsuits were everywhere!
This event is used to seed swimmers for the Midmar Mile which will take place in February. It also serves as a great opportunity for the Eunice swimmers to gauge their fitness levels and to assess how much training they still need to do before they take the plunge into the Midmar dam.
The winner of the 1km race on Saturday was Luchelle Oosthuizen, with Danielle Ontong 5th and Joané Meintjies in the 6th place. Fourteen Eunice swimmers completed the race in less than 20 minutes.
Luchelle Oosthuizen (5th), Amber Olsen (7th), and Lizri Weyers (13th) were the first three Eunice swimmers to complete the 3km race.
Every year, more than 180 Eunice learners, accompanied by a group of Eunice staff, travel to Durban for the Midmar Mile. In preparation for this tough and challenging event, Eunice swimmers will be training in the mornings, before school and in the afternoons, in order to achieve their well-earned Midmar medals.
