The Hobhouse Open Air School, attended by our Grade 9s during the second term, is an educational and character-building experience. All the activities, which include games, mountain climbing, obstacle courses, walking trails and a Potjiekos competition, serve as great opportunities for team building amongst our girls. The instructors excel at transforming education into fun activities.
Girls are exposed to situations which take them out of their comfort zone. This teaches them to cope with discomfort and makes them grateful for the things they take for granted at home, like easy access to water and warm showers. Since no cell phones are allowed, the absence of family results in them treasuring their loved ones even more. Similarly, the fact that the girls have to spend day and night together for a few days, provides the opportunity for beneficial peer bonding.
